The Ortlieb Velo-Sling is a compact 3-litre waterproof bag that moves between two worlds with ease: clipped to the handlebar for the ride, worn across the shoulder for everything else. The magnetic closure is one of its defining features — the magnets draw together almost by themselves, allowing one-handed closing while moving. Handlebar Mounting

The Velo-Sling attaches to the handlebar via two O-straps and a rubber cord, all included. Optional foam spacers prevent contact marks on the handlebar. The shoulder strap can be removed or stowed away to keep it clear of the wheel when the bag is on the bike. An additional elastic cord reinforces the installation, prevents swaying at speed, and can be used to secure external gear on the fly.

Carrying and Expansion

The wide padded shoulder strap makes off-bike carrying genuinely comfortable for extended periods. Daisy chains on the exterior allow accessories to be attached directly to the bag — a light jacket, a packable layer or additional small bags. The two volume expansion straps can also reinforce the roll-top closure when the bag is fully loaded and the top cannot close in the usual way.

What is the difference between the Velo-Sling and the Velo-Sling Flex?

The Velo-Sling (3L) mounts using O-straps directly on the handlebar — no mounting kit required. The Velo-Sling Flex (2.5L or 5L) uses the Ortlieb Bar-Lock interface system, which requires a separate mounting kit, and offers a flexible construction that adapts to load volume. The Velo-Sling is the more compact and self-contained option; the Flex offers more volume and a more integrated mounting system.

Do I need a separate mounting kit?

No. The Velo-Sling comes with everything needed to mount it on the handlebar: two O-straps, a rubber cord and two optional foam spacers. No additional kit is required, unlike the Velo-Sling Flex which uses the Bar-Lock system.

Is the Velo-Sling fully waterproof?

It is IP64 rated — completely dustproof and protected against water jets from all directions. The PU-coated PS33 nylon and the roll-top closure keep the main compartment dry in heavy rain.
